The Undoing Series Finale comes undone on HBO

The Undoing - Series Finale

Pre-Season Finale Power Rankings

#1 Top prospect: Hugh Grant / Jonathan - painted as most guilty which means he might not be. Mother calls on Skype and basically describes him as a sociopath related to his younger sister getting hit by a car.

#4 Nicole Kidman’s Character - innocent or innocent like a fox?

#6 Henry - The Son of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant — found the hammer in his violin case, seems pretty obvious he knew - as he woke up staring at his mom.

#2 Top prospect: Husband of Elena - flimsy alibi

#3 Donald Sutherland - seems possible he knows much more than is being painted

#7 Other Dudes? Seems random

#5 The Principal Theory — hell of a call — not even “red herring” territory in the lead up

#8 Elena’s Son? There’s a hot take - Miguel Alves

Dream a little Dream of Me as a theme song is terrible in general - and definitely not great for a murder mystery series

Wow - the hammer in the dish washer routine ???

Hugh Grant throwing his son under the bus as a suspect - this is gonna be an interesting hour

Donald Sutherland - wants this thing over - i think he’s got motive

Are they ever gonna address Nicole Kidman’s “quasi clairvoyance”?

The Tuxedo - took it to the dry cleaners on the way to Lake George — DA had that wry smile like she had the ace up her sleeve

Hailey the Defense attorney calls Miguel to the stand!?!?!

Miguel told his teachers - that he was scared when his parents argued

Donald Sutherland’s eyebrows are a character unto themselves

Grace Fraser (Kidman) takin the stand - seems like an invitation for a turning point

The 911 call — on the cross examination — not a good look.

Is Grace trying to get her husband on the hook? What was her lawyer friend’s role in this?

An interesting - “bait & switch” - since he probably did this, that’s a good thing for “justice” but - they let Grace essentially perjure herself as the big reveal?

I wanted more twists and turns than a narcissist saying “I didn’t do it” in a believable way.

Road Trip! Instead of going to court. There’s a twist I wanted! OK! But there’s 3 minutes left guys

Do they usually let the civilians ride in the helicopter?

Do they owe the bail bondsman $8million now cuz Jonathan fled?

Christmas List for the New England Patriots

The 2-5 Patriots would be 4-3 at best if they still had Brady -- so who cares, moving on was still the right decision for Tom and for the New England.

Bill is still rolling the dice that this season might not finish or that other teams will get caught with bad health luck and they could be in the mix at 8-8 or 9-7 for that 7 seed

Bill chould pull a FULL TANK and lose 9 more in a row, including 2 to the Jets — just to troll them in the most inexplicable way possible

Christmas List, what Christmas List? JJ from ManCookGood says “keep Cam for 2 years 40 million and see what happens”… don’t hate it!

Arsenal and Hoffenheim take a shot a creating some "late match theatrics

Carabao Cup Leeds tied Hull in 93rd minute - game went to PK’s and ended 9-8

Kamala Harris and the Boston Celtics in one place

Celtics vs. Sixers - playoffs

Have you watched most recent episode of Below Deck Med?

Phillies vs. Red Sox? How are Phillies this season?

Dan likened this season to a death march, why?

Celtics took game 1. Gordon Hayward is out for a month. Celts can’t rebound.

i think this goes 6 and either team could still be the winner

Flyers vs. Montreal - gotta pull for the Fly Guys in that one. Flyers are up 3-1

Bruins somehow are 2-0 since Tuuka Rask Left and lead Carolina 3-1.

You gotta fight fire with fire with people like the current President — think it’s an awesome pick

Before Biden Picked Harris - where did you have Harris ranked on his potential list of running mates? And Why?

Who else did you like from that potential list of running mates?

I was surprised that Harris’ campaign didn’t get more traction during primary season… any thoughts as to why that was the case? (Bernie and Biden seemed to take the air out of the room in a lot of ways, perhaps?)

Tim Kaine was a “milk toast” uninspired pick for Hilary in 2016 — Kamala Harris is NOT THAT for so many reasons.

Here’s a tweet from day 2 on the VP ticket - “Trump inherited the longest economic expansion in history from Barack Obama and Joe Biden. And then, like everything else he inherited, he ran it straight into the ground.”

PSG crushes the dreams of Atalanta in excruciating fashion

That Time Atalanta was about to upset Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and then PSG scored 2 goals with 2 minutes left to crush the dreams of Bergamo Italy. Football is a cruel  sport and we caught and shared the ending.

Places listening

Paris France #1, Arlington VA #2 and Moscow #3

Atalanta first ever Champions League Campaign

Team is 112 years old  from the city of Bergamo in Lombardy Italy

Their game in February is seen as one of the largest super spreader events in the COVID-19 pandemic

PSG - founded in 1970

Have made round of 16 or QuarterFinals in 9 of the past 10 seasons

Haven’t made semis since 1995

They’ve got Neymar - the most expensive free-agent transfer of all-time (at least when the deal was done) - gotta be heavy favorites

Red Sox are a mess in 2020 - which is on brand for 2020 w/ the "Sportz Jerks"

Red Sox stink but MLB baseball is back (for now)

Let’s start with former Red Sox cult hero and Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly throwing behind Houston Astros Batters.

Jeremy - every MLB team should have a guy on their roster like Joe Kelly, tell us why?

Leave it to the red sox to beat Jake De Grom - At least Eovaldi is getting run support.

Blame Pie - we go down the payroll and assign blame

Active Payroll is $115 million, the injured reserve payroll is $52 million (so almost 33% of the salaries)… and if you adjust the salaries for the shortened season… $43.7 million for active payroll and $15.7 million for injured reserve, so either way over 25% of your salaries are going to dudes who are injured

JD Martinez - I’m going with Base salaries not adjusted - he’s at $23.75 million

Xander Bogaerts - $20 million

Nathan Eovaldi - $17 million

Jackie Bradley Jr. - $11 million

Martin Perez - Pitcher - $5.5mil

Kevin Pillar - $4.25mil

Christian Vasquez - $4.2mil

Jonathan Lucroy - $1.5mil

Brandon Workman - $3.5mil

Andrew Benintendi - $3.4mil

Matt Barnes - $3.1 mil

There’s a bunch of dudes I don’t know or care about but we can go through them

Mitch Moreland $2.5mil - play him

Rafael Devers - $692,500 - play him

Alex Verdugo - $600,000 - play him

Michael Chavis - $571,000 - play him - but not a 1B

Chris Sale - $30million

Dustin Pedroia - $13mil

Eduardo Rodriguez - $8.3million (he’s only on 10-IR — he pitched well in 2019 relative to these other guys)

Paying David Price - $5.9mill (and he counts $16,000 against the luxury tax)

Paying Pablo Sandoval - $5mil

Paying Manny $2million in deferred money - that’s ok

Rusney Castillo is getting $14.27 million this year in a “buried minor league contract”

Who’s on the trade block - Xander has a full no trade clause

Eovaldi ? is he worth a flyer for a contender?

Jackie Bradley? same as Eovaldi?

Underrated Prospects

Baseball Analytics is “dead” in a 60 game season.

the manager Roenicke, seems to be going out of his way to “out do” Bobby Valentine as worst 1 year manager of the 21st century for the Red Sox.

Airing of Grievances

Predictions going forward — As Clubber Lang said in Rocky 3 - my prediction is pain! Red Sox are tanking

It didn’t have to be like this - it started with the overreaction of firing Alex Cora and the Mookie Betts deal with the Dodgers was an exclamation point! But lots happened along the way.

Moreland got benched the day after 2 homers - team can’t score

Verdugo vs. Lefties rant from Andrew

Benintendi, Pillar, What else

Tiger King Podcast

Tiger King

Joe Exotic - starts off that you hate him, by episode 3 you like him, by episode 5 he’s kind of in the middle, episode 7 it’s just sad and you want it to end.

Essentially cult leader. Pro-Guns, Pro-Big Cats, Anti Carole, Loves country (and pretending he’s a singing), love tigers, some of what he does means he’s got a heart of gold (like employing ex-cons, but at the end of the day megalomaniac with a meth problem is how he’d be cast as a movie character.

Dude in Charleston - starts off like a middle ground between Joe and Carole from Big Cat rescue. Kind of more successful than Joe, but seems to agree with Joe about Carole. They we learn he’s basically a more successful cult leader than Joe and that he’s got multiple spouses  — and i think a lot of bad stuff has gone down for him since the documentary ended.

Carole Baskin- start off that you like her, by episode 3 you’re like “wait did she kill her husband”, by episode 4 you’re like she definitely killed her husband, changed his will, ripped off his kids, likely bribed officials to look the other way, is using her money to bankrupt Joe and the other Big Cat owners out there, and doing it all with a smile on her face

The dude Jeff (who bails out Joe Exotic) a con man who realizes that baby tigers are gold if you’re a “swinger”.

The fact that all of the Tiger Themed Country Song Music Videos are getting so much action right now - is an nod to Joe’s artistic flair.

“I Saw A Tiger” is about as pure as it gets.

“Here Kitty Kitty” is the “diss track” we’ve been waiting for since the Jay-Z vs. Nas beef was squashed. The Carole Baskin Lookalike in that video is spot on, too.

The actual singers are Danny Clinton and Vince Johnson btw.

Joe Exotic is the Milli Vanilli or 2020 and created the new sub genre Tiger Themed Country Music.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is sinking and Cocktail Hour Memories Part 2

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is running into the rocks

They missed on the casting of 2 key roles on the crew - the captain (I think) and the Chief Stew (for sure).

The preexisting relationship of Paget and his GF - is also a bad mix for this show. We don’t know their history, we’re not invested in their relationship “making it”. A couple nagging each other consistently isn’t great for “Below Deck” dynamic - that’s a very “Real Housewives” Energy.

The Charter Guests haven’t been compelling yet either (Cindy’s take). The guests help to stir the pot, and they haven’t done so, yet.

Cindy also said, “It’s got a Southern Charm Savannah feel to it.”

Unrelated observation - My Parents neighbors leave their Christmas lights on “all year” - and it really messes with your brain.

Los Angeles Post Kobe Bryant

Los Angeles post Kobe Bryant

Discuss the vibe in LA post Kobe. Tana has unique perspective as a Bball player/fan who lives in LA but didn’t grow up there

Where were you when you heard the news? (This seems like an event people will remember forever “where they were”.)

Reasons for this: partially Kobe’s massive fame, partially we saw him with Gigi on TV a lot lately, partially how vibrant/active his life was at the moment of his death. Partially cuz it all happened/ended in an instant.

Rewind: what were your feelings on Kobe prior to moving to West Coast/ LA?

Assuming those feelings evolved, what stands out to you since you’ve been on the West Coast/LA?

What have you seen in terms  of memorials/murals/tributes/vigils around the city that stick out or are poignant?

Has any other death in LA had this type of impact on the city since you’ve been there?

Only person even close off the top of my head (in terms of suddenness) actor Paul Walker from Fast & Furious - but it’s not even close. [This doesn’t include homicides, suicides or overdoses - the True accidental nature of this death really makes people take a step back]

Kobe was “our age” and that makes you take stock in life being so fragile. And then the kids and other passengers and pilot news came out and that takes it from sobering to senseless.

The other victims - have people done an appropriate job of remembering them? It’s such a had circumstance to appropriately do that.

Anything else you want to discuss on this?

Places listening - Paris France and Hertford UK are the top 2 cities this week.

Dave Matthews Band Fans react to Snub by Rock Hall of Fame

Dave Matthews Band Hall of Fame Snub - Rebuttal by the fans

Places listening - France, USA, UK, Australia, Sweden, Canada, Austria, Spain, Latvia, Italy

In terms of cities listening - a place called O’Brien, Florida check in for the first time ever. Interesting name, especially since two of our recurring guests have the last name.

Big Lar, his wife Christina, Bob Piano, Rosco P and maybe even Dan Ruttle bumping in at the end. It’s madness, I think we got all of Christina’s impassioned language aka cursing editing out. It was a free for all.

The point on Dave Matthews Band getting snubbed — Rock Hall of Fame has a “short bench” of interesting and more importantly famous in the moment acts coming up in future years. Dan O’Brien covered that fact on episode 301.

So, if they make Dave Matthews and someone like Pat Benatar both wait (despite being #1 and #2 in the fan vote) - it helps them set a good pace for inducting big pop acts every year instead of having the well run dry.

But, Dave Matthews Band won the fan vote - and this was the first time in 7 years that the winner of the fan vote didn’t get in. So it really got people by surprise. Especially DMB fans. Because they rallied and “stuffed the ballot box” - they assumed based on the past 6-7 years, that Dave was a shoe-in.

So, the Rock Hall Officials Zigged when the Fan Vote Zagged. It’s a good one-time trick. But, as you’ll hear on the pod — if you mess with the fan vote, then fans might stop voting if they don’t think they matter.

Anyway - here’s a mini pod - very impromptu - live from Barlow’s in South Boston, MA.

Rock Hall of Fame 2020 Inductee Podcast

2020 Rock Hall of Fame

Place listening Paris France - continues to lead the list, Mountain View, CA and San Jose CA, Amsterdam and long lost friends in Ashburn VA all checking in the top 5 or 10 places listening this week

France, USA and Netherlands are the top 3 countries - also UK, Spain, Australia, Iran, Turkey and Iraq - based on episode 299 - not shocked on those countries listening

Bad Boys for Life aka part 3, I’m all over it. Feel like it’s rare in hollywood to take like 7 years before part 2 and then like 17 more years before part 3. Both Spiderman and Batman have been rebooted twice each between Bad Boys 2 and Bad Boys 3

For the first time in 7 years the winner of the fan vote didn’t get inducted. And this year it was first time nominee, Dave Matthews Band.

Fans are up in arms, 1,000,000 people voted for them, USA Today is covering it — and frankly — I’m not a big fan of snubs — but this Manufactured Controversy is probably good for the Rock Hall’s awareness in the public consciousness.

Getting In:

Whitney Houston — the second biggest oversight of the past 3-5 years after Janet Jackson and now they are both in

The Notorious BIG - this is a no-brainer for me - but the Hall Has snubbed LL Cool J - so it’s great to see them get one right.

Depeche Mode

Nine Inch Nails

Doobie Brothers

T. Rex - they are about to spur on a spinoff podcast titled “Who is the worst act inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame”.

I voted on November 7th - My Votes were Biggie, Whitney, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden (soft spot for Cornell), Dave Matthews Band. I felt the biggest LOCK was DMB.

At the Time of My vote in November:

DMB was leading with 385,656 votes  (Only the beatles and rolling stones have had more #1 albums)

Pat Benatar was 2nd with 363,191 votes (this is a huge snub as well) - 8 gold albums from 1979-1988 including 6 straight going platinum. Her “You better run video” was the 2nd ever to be on MTV. 4 straight GRAMMYS for female performer of the year.

The Doobie Bros were 3rd with 328,435 votes  HOF

Soundgarden was 4th with 325,264 votes (first Seattle grunge band to sign to a major label)

Judas Priest was 5th with 286,131 votes

Depeche Mode was 6th with 265515 votes  HOF (arguably the best version of synth-pop out there)

Whitney Houston was 7th with 247,791 votes  HOF  (Basically invented the national anthem as a spectacle at Super Bowl 25)

8th Thin Lizzy

9th Motorhead

10th Nine Inch Nails  200,116 votes  HOF  (Godfather of pop/ industrial rock)

11th Todd Rundgren

12th T Rex 150,692 votes  HOF  (There are people saying they essentially invented Glam Rock when they left “Psychedelic Folk Music”- welp

13th Biggie Smalls 148,173 votes HOF  (Biggie is what this is all about. Larger than life persona who did his version of music at the highest level possible). He’s always listed on the mount rushmore of MC’s - he’s gotta be in. I’m stoked and shocked that they got this right.

14th Kraftwerk

15th Rufus ft. Chaka Khan 68,852 votes
