Los Angeles Post Kobe Bryant

Los Angeles post Kobe Bryant

Discuss the vibe in LA post Kobe. Tana has unique perspective as a Bball player/fan who lives in LA but didn’t grow up there

Where were you when you heard the news? (This seems like an event people will remember forever “where they were”.)

Reasons for this: partially Kobe’s massive fame, partially we saw him with Gigi on TV a lot lately, partially how vibrant/active his life was at the moment of his death. Partially cuz it all happened/ended in an instant.

Rewind: what were your feelings on Kobe prior to moving to West Coast/ LA?

Assuming those feelings evolved, what stands out to you since you’ve been on the West Coast/LA?

What have you seen in terms  of memorials/murals/tributes/vigils around the city that stick out or are poignant?

Has any other death in LA had this type of impact on the city since you’ve been there?

Only person even close off the top of my head (in terms of suddenness) actor Paul Walker from Fast & Furious - but it’s not even close. [This doesn’t include homicides, suicides or overdoses - the True accidental nature of this death really makes people take a step back]

Kobe was “our age” and that makes you take stock in life being so fragile. And then the kids and other passengers and pilot news came out and that takes it from sobering to senseless.

The other victims - have people done an appropriate job of remembering them? It’s such a had circumstance to appropriately do that.

Anything else you want to discuss on this?

Tom Brady is the GOAT

Tom Brady is the GOAT

The debate is over. Only take - Peyton Manning was close and he came in with more raw talent and an unbelievable work ethic. But, Brady’s competitiveness drove him to work as hard as Manning. It’s like Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. They drove each other.

But the crazy thing is Brady is getting 2 different careers: Brady and Manning were like Larry and Magic — the two of them cost each other at least 2 more championships each.

No Tom Brady and Peyton Manning probably wins 4 and goes to 7 super bowls.

No Peyton Manning and Tom Brady probably wins 7 and goes to 11 super bowls.

But, Brady somehow extended his career, and with manning gone he’s more like Michael Jordan — basically peerless, and more competitive and more experienced than anybody left standing.

Did you ever have a doubt last night about Pats winning in Kansas City?

Where does this AFC title win rank amongst the other 8 of the Brady / Billy B era?

Do you really think Patriots by a million for Super Bowl 53 pick?

Are we going to Atlanta?

What if anything would you have to say to Philadelphia Eagles lineman and Patriots Troll, Lane Johnson?

what’s the mood in Boston right now?

What’s the Super Bowled theme t-shirt going to be this year - it was “Squish the Fish” in 1986 - is it gonna be “Slam the Rams”? goodness I hope so!

LA and Boston squaring off for 2 world titles in 2 different sports in like a 4 month window — and the Celtics are Lakers aren’t involved

Crazy KC Chiefs fan/neighbor update

rematch of the Super Bowl that started it all: Rams vs Patriots

A couple of weeks ago we said that the teams we’d like to see in the Super Bowl ranked most to least:

Patriots

Chargers (tortured base, that was just abandoned)

Chiefs (officially a tortured fan base)

Saints (starting to become a tortured fan base) - and for decades they were before Brees ad Payton showed up

Rams (abandoned their fan base, but also returned to their original home, so I feel like their mojo is just getting started) — Several parallels to the 2001 Patriots

3 way tie for last Cowboys, Colts, & Eagles.

Patriots 10 super bowls - played Bears, Packers, Rams, Panthers, Eagles, Giants x2, Seahawks, Falcons, Eagles (0-2 vs NFC north, 2-0 vs NFC South, 1-3 vs NFC east, 2-0 vs NFC west)

This is the Patriots 11th Super Bowl - And they’ll be playing a team from the NFC west

You know who the forgotten victims of this Super Bowl are… former St. Louis Rams fans

FilibusterFreestyle.com

Here’s who’s left:

Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Chargers (of San Diego) at New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs

What i’d like to see:

Rams win big. What I think will happen Rams win ugly.

Saints win by 1 or more. What I think will happen, Eagles win by 1 (actually i think saints win a squeaker, but I just want Eagles out).

Pats win by 1 or more. What I think will happen, I think Chargers take it. But, the Pats with a bye week might have 1 last trick left in the bag.

Chiefs win big. What I think will happen, Chiefs win ugly

Teams we’d like to see in the Super Bowl ranked most to least:

Patriots

Chargers

Chiefs

Saints

Rams

3 way tie for last Cowboys, Colts, & Eagles.

trying to think who I like less than those teams… AFC east teams (nope, they hate us). Giants - meh? Ravens (definitely, but they’re out). Broncos (same boat as the Ravens).

Patriots 10 super bowls - played Bears, Packers, Rams, Panthers, Eagles, Giants x2, Seahawks, Falcons, Eagles (0-2 vs NFC north, 2-0 vs NFC South, 1-3 vs NFC east, 2-0 vs NFC west)

Rams or Saints — most dangerous —but Pats will be underdogs and ME LIKELY THAT !!!!

Red Sox vs Dodgers world series 2019

Chappelle show had a skit in which Dave shared his views on the world at 18, 24 and 30

Pats have essentially been great in the regular season this whole 17 year period

But with the Sox it’s more of a “check in” when they’re really good. They have the highest payroll or a top 3 payroll each year... but baseball is so random it doesn’t always work.

So if I look at where I was when Sox clinched ALCS in ‘04, ‘07 and ‘13 it’s a very interesting  look at the past 14 or so years

‘04 - living in Worcester Ma. Working 3 part time jobs. Sting of 03 Brett Boone homer still fresh. Sox still viewed as cursed.

The come back in the series from Down 0-3 to the Yankees. Winning in yankee stadium.

Francona bringing out Pedro for no reason and yankee stadium and the ghost of babe Ruth rising one last time to chant who’s your daddy as 56,000 people with one voice.

The World Series sweep being an epilogue, as opposed to the climax - dude to the yankee history.

Andrew Patterson walking down Lexington ave in head to toe Sox gear and spike lee acknowledging it, without saying a word

The idiots concept. The Red Sox needed a team of utter free spirits and irrational confidence guys - in order to escape the baggage of the curse

2007 proved that the Sox could win as front runners, but not without drama.
The JD Drew grand slam. Josh Beckett being a stud before he was acting like an entitled turf

I was in philly - I was 28. I was in a new job, in a new city, more playing a the role of a “grown up” than actually being one at the time. This title gave me the ability to “breathe easy” for a bit, especially now knowing some very tough sledding that was about to occur.

2013 - 34 years old - living at walnut academy - working in NH

Tigers series. Rosco and I were playing a show in Northampton Ma. David Ortiz hit that famous homer. With the cop in the bullpen

Changing the words of Daft Punks “get lucky” on stage as an homage to big papi.

This was the marathon bombing year

Celebrating with my brother and my cousin Doug - reminded me of the 1999 alcs when the Sox lost, but we were in college, so the fun of just having beers and screaming at the tv with friends.

This was “The beards/ facial hair” team - a facial hair zenith. A perfect blend of youth, veterans having career years and health. Team came out of nowhere.

The bridge title between the bruins and the pats 4th Super Bowl win

2018 - 39 years old. Living in charlotte, NC.  Best regular season team in sox history. An amazing outfield. David Price getting “over the hump” to win a series clincher.

Cindy Harrington narrating the end of game 5 as I drove home from Winston-Salem a bullpen that is still a nightly adventure. Dustin Pedroia in the final days of a career that’s already ended, but thinking how vital he was to the 07 and 13 teams and thinking of the full circle journey.

I have no idea what will happen- I can’t believe that two former Sox world champs Alex Cora and Dave Roberts are the managers.

Imagine rooting against Dave Roberts ??  Only in baseball

You’ve celebrated all but 1 of Boston’s 21st century championships in LA. The only real comparison to this would be the 2008 and 2010 NBA Finals — what’s it like to live the Boston/LA rivalry in LA?

If it wasn’t the red sox - would you be pulling for dodgers under every other circumstance?

what’s your best guest on the ratio of Sox fans to Dodgers fans in Dodger Stadium?

What do the Dodgers do better than the Yankees or Astros that has you worried?

You know how our grand parents had to live through the depression, and that period of time really shaped their sense of always conserving resources? To me that’s a little like sports. I can’t shake the feels that this run will end at one point, almost to the point of being too nervous to fully embrace it.

Name that tune of the dodgers organ player during world series

2017 Winners & Losers plus Big predictions for 2018

Winners and Losers of 2017

Places listening: Top City this week Bagong Kalsada in the Philippines, crushing it. Mountain View, CA #2 and Los Angeles #3

Dubai of the United Arab Emirates cracked the top 5 for the first time as well.

First time places — Laos, Vietnam, Luxembourg - over 27 countries listened last week — THANK YOU TO ALL, please leave a review on iTunes and please keep spreading the word

Bud light and Game of Thrones were both winners in 2017 and you need to look no further than the “Dilly Dilly” ad campaign to prove that both were winners

Losers - in some ways Micro Brews — for about 10 years the hipsters fave been leading the “Marco Brew” renaissance with Pabst Blue Ribbon — but in 2017 it felt like commercials started poking major fun at Micro Brews.

Example one — the Honey Mead Wine guy getting sent to the pit of misery in the Dilly Dilly ads

Example two - Actor Danny Trejo is in a series of Sling TV commercials - there’s one in which he’s a bartender and some yuppie guy is like i’m looking for a microbrew no, a nano brew… and he carries on, and then Danny says, I made this one in my bathtub. And the customers takes it but says something like “That’s so gross”.

HBO is a loser in some ways too — Peak Game of Thrones only highlights the following - they’ve got nothing ready to replace GOT, people are likely going to turn on GOT during it’s final season, because at least 50% of audience won’t like how it ends

Puerto Rico  is a loser of 2017— the commonwealth of Puerto Rico was decimated and so little has been done about it, that they should have the option to pick a new country to become a territory of. Or better yet, Yankee Swap style — they should get to swap “aid packages” with another part of the country that go aid this year

Also fun fact — Yankee Swaps are called “White Elephant” gift exchanges in North Carolina — and when I was in Philly it was called a pollyanna

Lavar Ball - despite how many people don’t like him — is a winner — since he came from obscurity. With that said, I’ll be shocked if he’s a winner in 2018 — i think he’s slated to be one of 2018’s biggest losers.

Winners: Rose McGowan and everybody associated with the #MeToo movement who came forward

Losers: Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey Jerry Richardson and dozens of others who clearly were abusing their powerful places in entertainment, sports, and business

This clearly goes much deeper - but from a media standpoint - does this keep going? Who goes down next? I feel like this could absolutely destroy washington is we let it

ESPN got trounced and the NFL got trounced — post peak front runners getting dismantled is a theme i think will continue in 2018

Gender Reveals and Gender Reveal / Guy in American Flag Jorts in Southie

Possible winners in 2018

Possible losers in 2018 - The Tea Party / radical right — I’m not sure if I can ever bet against republicans wholesale again — but i feel pretty good about “establishment republicans”, independents and left leaning democrats mobilizing en masse in the midterms against the Tea Party.

Joe Biden Mania — 2018 — I only hope that it doesn’t peak too early

Onesie Christmas Pajamas — the cast of Premier league on NBC are all wearing them today — the amount of matching onesie pajamas on instagram, facebook, snapchat is off the charts — i think the backlash is coming

Jimmy G and the San Francisco 49ers — if this guys stays healthy and they can sign him — as long as he stays healthy and can avoid the “Johnny Manziel pitfalls of fame” — they are going to the playoffs in 2018 and likely for most of the next 7 to 10 seasons
