WWE Comes to the US Open w/ Daniil Medvedev playing the Tennis Heel role

Pro Wrestling has come to The US Open:

Places listening - Australia in 2nd place, followed by Brazil, UK, Mexico, Vietnam, amongst others.

#1 City this week, Gosnells Australia which is a suburb of Perth out there in Western Australia.

The introductions of the players on the main court — they now dim the lights and play music when players come out

Star Singles players are now pairing up for doubles and playing before sellout crowds - like Tag Teams

Andy Murray is playing - Coco Gauff is teamed with Katie McNally - they’re 15 and 17 respectively

Kristie Ahn is a local kid born 2 miles away in Flushing hospital. This is storybook stuff.

Naomi Osaka brought Coco out for post match interview - going for the Tear Jerking moment on live TV - whether spontaneous or planned - it was both authentic and made for TV.

Djokovic gets booed because he has to withdraw from the match against Stan Wawrinka. “Joker” is in the midst of a run in which he’s won 4 of the past 5 majors and injury bug finally catches him.

People Booed because they wanted a longer match — but he handled it great.

13th mid-match retirement for Djokovic, 6th in a major

Now openly stating his goal to break Federer’s record - this has got to be killing him.

Stan Wawrinka seeded 23 - finally seeded again after a few rough years of injuries. Two knee surgeries. He’s just 6-19 against Joker but has now won 2 in a row including when he won the US Open against Joker. Stan is a 3 time major champion and the crowd is going to be ALL IN on him in his next match.

Because Stan’s next match is against the guy who we’re actually here to talk about today.

#5 Seed, Daniil Medvedev of Russia. Perfect wrestling heel behavior. He was rude to a ball boy in public. He gave a thinly veiled middle finger during his 3rd round match.

Crowd started booing him and in his post match press conference.

He basically went all Ravishing Rick Rude on them.

Told them in a very sarcastic / mocking tone that the energy they gave him motivated him to keep pushing, and that if they keep that same level of energy for him, he’d have enough energy to win 5 more matches and take the title.

He followed that up against a German Qualifier, Dominik Koepfer, who played at Tulane. Crowd was literally chanting “Let’s Go Koepfer” in unison like it was a Yankees Game.

He got down a set - and then came back to win the match in 4 sets. He again mocked the crowd in sarcastic fashion and essentially is “DRINKING IN THE BOOS”.

But. this is genius. The guy is #5 seed in tournament and nobody outside of tennis circles knew him or was talking about him before this. In a world in which everybody is talking about the Big Three and Serena… he’s a top five player in the world toiling in anonymity.

My take is, he’s seen how much attention Nick Kygrios (sp?) gets for his antics, and he’s like - I’m way more consistent than that guy - I’m as good as pretty much anybody. If they won’t love me, and if they won’t acknowledge me as a really good player… i’m going to brand myself as the heel.

And that’s working this week. The interesting part will be if he embraces this long-term and how that plays out if he does.

Luke warm take - if he wins the US Open - I bet the President congratulates him on twitter, and might even invite Medvedev to White House.

But Stan Wawrinka looks like he’s all the way back - so we’ll see if he even gets to the Quarterfinals. NYC loves a hero, but they also love a villain.

Last thing, How about Nadal and Federer have never met each other in the US Open ever, in any round of the tournament.

Juiced Ball in MLB Serena Williams Wimbledon & 4th of July

Juiced Ball Era 2.0 -

Covered by Pittsburgh Post Gazette, ESPN, Ben Lindbergh of the Ringer — and now the Filibuster Freestyle

Rob Manfred became commissioner in January of 2015 — the uptick of Home Runs began immediately after the All-Star Break in 2015

There’s a lot of science/ research that you can in fact, juice the ball - lower seams and a smaller circumference can do that alone — even if tiny changes are made

But, 1998 wasn’t 75 years ago, it was less than 20 years ago — and we all remember it. My outlandish theory is “yes, the ball is slightly altered, and yes, hitting are trying to put the ball in the air more often because the ball is more likely to leave the confines of the field. But I think that MLB is actually leaking all of this science, because this time the want to head off the “juiced players” conversation before it even gets started.”

There was a line in Lindbergh’s article which stated that, “the PED scenario would require widespread, almost simultaneous adoption of a highly effective Drug that helps only hitters, isn’t detectable, and doesn’t make bodies look dramatically different.”

My response - have you ever watched the Tour De France? Are you familiar with Cycling? Or for that matter, Track & Field, etc, etc… these guys all have the same agents, they have all played together and for multiple teams, they likely have similar personal strength coaches, etc… plus, if the physics of the ball flying an extra few feet over the fence into the 2nd row is more likely to help the guy with warning track power than the slugger… then aren’t more regular hitters going to be willing to try it?”

There’s research from an NCAA seam-height study which concluded that increasing the balls COR or coefficient of restitution by 5 one-thousandths helps the ball fly 3 ft further and .63 mph faster. Lowering the seam by .00246’s of an inch gives it another 2.9 t and another .58 mph. Reducing the Circumference by .03 of in inch gives it 1.1 feet and .22 mph — add those together that’s an extra 7.1 ft and 1.43mph

Players w/ 20+ HR in a season 79 in 2012 (lower than 70 in each of 2013-2015) and then 111 in 2016

5 of the top 10 all-time HR/to Fly ball percentage leaders during the years of 2007-2017 are guys playing this year. 2 more are Ryan Howard in 2007&2008 - 2 more are some guy named Jack Cust during 2007 & 2008 and Nelson Cruz in 2015

Then Federer keeps it rolling, Wins at Indian Wells (beats Nadal again) and then wins in Miami (beats Nadal a third time) - takes the “sunshine slam”

Federer opts to skip entire Clay court season (Which is Nadal’s specialty surface). At the time, in April did you think this was a smart idea by Federer or not?

Fast forward to Clay Season Rafa wins in Monte Carlo, wins his 10th title in Madrid, his 10th title in Barcelona, loses in Italy, but bounces back and wins his 10th French Open title and his 15th major.

So I ask you again — Federer essentially forfeited any chance to block Nadal from pulling back to within 3 majors of this record — but was this a smart idea?

Next Federer comes back for the beginning of Grass Season - he gets upset in his first match back by Tommy Haas in Stuttgart. But, in Halle he wins the tourney.

Rafa sat out of the lead ups to Wimbledon — played to rounds at an exhibition tourney

Was this is smart move by Rafa?

Who has the best chance of winning Wimbledon Federer, Nadal, or the field?

Who finished with most Majors Federer or Nadal?

Does Novak at 12 have a shot to catch Fed’s 18? Do you think he will? Will 19 majors be enough?

My shirt wasn’t on - sign you still live alone

Odds to Win Wimbledon - Skybet — i’m gonna be in Europe, so this matters

Federer - 2/1

Andy Murray - 4/1

Rafael Nadal - 9/2

Novak - 11/2

Milos Raonic - 14/1

Marin Cilic - 18/1

Wawrinka - 25/1

Dominic Thiem - 40/1 - also he’s 16/1 to reach the final - by far the best odds to maximize winnings

Johnny McEnroe loves Nadal — he’s a homer  — and that’s fine — it’s just pretty obvious

Methinks he’s calling Serena out now because she’s in the middle of her first pregnancy — and she can’t call his out immediately. Is John McEnroe looking to be the Bobby Riggs of the 21st century? I think he’d lose — but like, embarrassingly

What is more singular - that Serena has 23 and the nearest competitor of here Era has 7? Or that Nadal and Federer (and now Djokovic) are clearly 3 cuts above the rest of their era

Steffi Graf won the 1999 french open her 22nd major // Serena won the 1999 US Open her first

From 1999-2017 Venus has won 7, Justine Henin has won 7, Sharapova has won 5, Kim Clijsters has won 4

Novak 12 majors 9 runners up (29 years old)

Nadal 15 majors 7 runners up  (30 years old)

Federer 18 majors 10 Runners up (35 years old) - Federer won 5 majors in 2003,  2004 2005 prior to Nadal’s coming out party in 2006

Murray 3 titles 8 runners up (29 years old)

Wawrinka 3 titles no runners up (31 years old) - has had most success of any one else during this “Big Four Era”

Trump vs Boston and Roger Federer beats Nadal notes

Trump vs Boston / Federer wins Aussie Open over Nadal notes

UFC Fight night —

“Mississippi Mean” aka Jason “the kid” knight - -Submits Carceres aka “Bruce LeRoy" - Jason Knight has like a paragraph of tattoos written on each rib cage — he’s a religious dude too, laid on the mat to pray, post fight.

What are Andrew’s thoughts on Holly Holm v Germaine De Randame — Inaugural Feather weight championship — also Holly holm looks a tad like a jacked Tanya Harding (1992 Tonya harding) — all due respect

Andre Arlofski (25-14) vs Frances Ngannou (9-1) — Frances is 7 years younger with 6in reach  advantage

Do you think Bruce & Michael Buffer’s parents were outspoken or very soft spoken at the dinner table when they were young?

Nganou wins in less than 1 round — 92seconds TKO

Fun Fact — apparently UFC debuted in Denver, CO back in the 90’s??? Interesting

Donald Cowboy Cerrone - Welterweight vs Jorge Masvidal  (31-11 record???) That’s a ton of action in MMA - Crowd kinda hates him

Cowboy was getting WORKED at the end of the 1st round — should have had the fight called — saved by the bell Zack Morris style

Masvidal — ruined Cowboy in 2nd round — in Cowboy’s own home town

Valentina Shevchenko vs. Julianna Pena nickname is the “Venezuelan Vixen” (better than Karate Hottie) - Pena came out to “let’s go crazy” by Prince — like her already.

I’ve seen Shvechenko before — she can bring it — fun fact - made her pro MMA debut at 15 years old — yikes. She has a pretty sick “tattoo game as well”. She’s fighting out of Lima, Peru - that’s a fun fact as well

Lots of women seem to be headlining main events lately - any truth to that, or am i making that up?

Cornrows — both ladies are rocking them — seems like a smart hairstyle of this type of occupation

Shevchenko - Armbar winner — Pena has her most of the round — but those submissions come quickly

GOP isn’t smaller gov’t - it’s big gov’t spending on different expenses and issues. Both parties waste money (lots of it), Both parties are getting rich off of blaming each other for the problems of the american people. Both parties are deeply flawed. We need an alternative - why do gun people have to also be pro-life people // and why can’t people want a strong military also be ok with universal health are? We’re trying win a chess game with a checkers strategy

Sanctuary Cities issue - from like Wednesday of this week. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is picking a fight with President Trump. Here’s my Thesis — Boston Started the original Tea Party and Boston might end the current “tea party”

Here’s why- if Republicans are all about state’s rights & local gov’t and smaller gov’t autonomy, then they are hypocrites, for forcing federal law upon a state or a city gov’t.

luke warm take #1: People in Boston don’t enjoy outsiders telling them what to do. Luke warm take #2: people in boston are willing to die before bending their knee to an outside oppressor. People in Boston are like Arya Stark for Game of Thrones. Luke warm take #3 - two of the biggest middle fingers in American history are the US Revolution/ Paul Revere & the response to the Marathon Bombing

Let’s talk about the CalExit — but in the scope of New England

In the US there are states which provide a net donation to the GOv’t in Federal Taxes and their are states that come up short and therefore are bailed out by the states which provide more than their fair share.

Massachusetts is a “provider” — many Red States are “takers” or Mooches. It’s amazing how Red States don’t mind socialism when it benefits them personally.

May 5, 2014 article in the Atlantic - so “not fake news” - The 10 most dependent States were South Carolina, ND, LA, FL, AL, HI, MS, NM, KY, WV (New Mexico and Hawaii are blue) Florida is a Cluster-EFF and the other 7 are about as Red State as it gets

Mass borders Vermont, Vermont borders Quebec (Canada) - I’m not advocating MA & VT Secede - But when Canada builds their own southern border wall to keep americans out, please consider building that wall to include VT and MA. NH and Maine — if you want to stay in America — good for you — Alaska is surrounded by Canada and the Ocean and you can be too. Think of all the Canadians who could get their CA Dollars to go further every summer on Cape Cod.

Split between conservatives is like the Big East Conference Split a couple of years ago — half of us want football/ half don’t — it’s impossible to keep us together. Might be time to “go our separate ways”. Canada and Mexico should start a North American Union (like the EU) — and then each US State can opt to join that new nation or not. Blue State america will take all of the money and education and help start the next “greatest nation on earth” — while what “Used to be America” can sit in the middle of the continent “isolated and alone” just they way they want it.

Muslim Ban - Iraq, Syria, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan and Libya 130,000,000+ banned — Iranian official called it a gift to extremists — i have a question — and it’s a loaded question to point out some added idiocy and hypocrisy - Bin Laden was a Saudi National, who trained terrorists in Afghanistan, hid between the Pakistani and Afghani borders after 9/11 and ended getting killed in Pakistan after years of hiding — I’m not condoning banning any countries whole sale — but Donny T’s “Hate circus” seems to have some glaring omissions.

Jeremy J was right - were being distracted in the fight to preserve basic human rights & while we’re busy, they’ll be stealing as much as they can.

Hot takes I hope are 100% wrong - This aggression towards muslim nations will provide further motivation for extremists to recruit and plan attacks. Secondarily, this is part of a ploy to once again go to war in the middle east. We’ve lost enough american lives.

Love that the Court of the Easten District of NY (Likely Trump’s home district) issued a “Stay of execution” on Trump’s ban —after a filing from the ACLU on behalf of one of the detainees being held at JFK —  violates Habeas Corpus — See Donny —the difference between campaigning and governing is that other people in gov’t positions also wield power.

And GOP morons — if you want more State’s rights — you gotta live with it when liberal states decide to say “NO thanks” to backwards federal executive orders.

Statue of Liberty - Still Standing? Dena DeForge. Pope Francis— christians who forsake other refugees — are hypocrites. When Dick Cheney criticizes you for being too hard towards muslims, you’ve out kicked your punt coverage. Moderates on both sides are yearning for the leadership of George W and Dick C — yikes.

Nadal vs. Federer — tickets for the final on the Stubhub/ Seat Geek market — $26,000

Australian Open officials opened Margaret Court arena for viewing and 25,000 people watched it on tv next door to where it was happening

Federer wins 6–4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3

Federer wins 18th major - now up 4 on Nadal and up 6 on Djokavic

Federer is 4th oldest player to win a major (a guy named Ken Rosewall won majors at 35, 36 & 37 back in the early 1970’s) - Rosewall won 8 majors - not too shabby.

Nike was happy — 2 walking Nike commercials on court for 4+ hours

Johnny McEnroe loves Nadal — he’s a homer  — and that’s fine — it’s just pretty obvious

Nadal 14 titles 7 runners up  (30 years old)

Federer 18 Titles 10 Runners up (35 years old) - Federer won 5 majors in 2003,  2004 2005 prior to Nadal’s coming out party in 2006

Murray 3 titles 8 runners up (29 years old)

Wawrinka 3 titles no runners up (31 years old) - has had most success of any one else during this “Big Four Era”

Federer is the Patriots - if he’s healthy he’s in the mix — and he’s the most likely to succeed if others forget to bring their A-game

Murray is the Steelers - when the others don’t have their A game — he’s most likely to step up

Wawrinka is the Giants - when he puts it together he’s unbeatable

Nadal is the Ravens - best head to head vs Patriots - less sustained greatness — wins with amazing defense

Novak is Colts/Broncos — most talent, most versatile — some people give him way too much credit, some give him way too little credit (Not a choker like Manning, but the rest holds up
