Coronavirus Podcast + Potholes vs. Spill Proof Cups

Massachusetts passed a hands free cell phone while driving law recently. Now i’m almost driving into pedestrians with their heads buried in their phones. When will they pass a hands free law for people walking on sidewalks and crossing intersections?

The “touch to text function” in my car has a mind of it’s own — so not only is using my phone dangerous and now illegal, but the touch to text is saying to me, “I’m going on break, let me know if you need anything”… WHAT!?!? I need you to work like 5% of the time i’m driving - you can’t pick to go on a break when I need to utilize your service.

Uber and Lyft drivers are ostensibly “professional drivers” meaning that they make money driving. But Uber and Lyft Drivers are amongst the worst drivers in the city. 80% of the time when a drivers is slow, confused, going the wrong way down a one way street, you see that little Uber and/or Lyft sticker on sign in their window and it’s like “that tracks”. Very onbrand.

But calling Uber/Lyft drivers professional drivers is like calling a crummy wedding DJ a professional musician. Like yes, you’re getting money for this service but you’re not Calvin Harris or Diplo or the late great Tiesto.

Spill proof coffee cups - very helpful. But no match for the potholes i’m dealing with in South Boston and Dorchester as I make my way to expressway every morning. I’m hitting the pothole because there’s literally no way not to do so. And the angle at which I need to hit it actually finds a way to spill an amazing amount of coffee out of a very small opening. It’s wild

Places listening Paris France, Philadelphia PA, Mountain View, CA in the top 3 — other spots Padstow Australia in the suburbs of Sydney and Adelaide Australia, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Barcelona, and Erbil Iraq

Australia, as a nation coming in #3 this week and that may be the first time Iraq has checked in

Coronavirus COVID -19 - yikes - not a great situation to say the least.

Song of the Summer 2017

The Search for the Song of the summer 2017

Spotify Global Top 50 May 31, 2017

Review hot takes from 2016 edition

Why does Andrew Patterson hate House party app?

Ellie Golding, Selena Gomez, Julia Michaels and pretty much ever female of that particular age and genre are all basically doing their best Lourde impression

Speaking of Selena Gomez, between her an Bieber we’ve got like 8 songs in the top 50 - disney model / going on Ellen’s show is genius

Quavo - pronounced Cuevo is on a ton of tracks on this record — Aside from Chance the Rapper and Future, he’s giving a lot of people a run for their money

#7 Swalla - With my boy Jason DeRulo and Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolls Sign - I can’t do it guys — it’s titled a "Dance Hall Banger" by Spotify — I can see American liking the very very basic Chorus and putting this thing over the top — but I’m hoping I’m wrong — this one may win but I’m giving it NO LOVE personally - despite feeling like it’s going to SWAY A LOT OF PEOPLE toward’s its side and leave my luke warm take “in the dust”

Problem is — even before Nicki’s verse i wrote the above — and then she hits a decent verse - this one could be trouble

Top Dogs - their’s to lose

#6 There’s Nothing Holding’ me back - Shawn Mendes

#5 HUMBLE. - is this even the best song on Kendrick’s new record ??? LOYALTY. Featuring Rihanna might be better

Luis Fonsi - Latin Sensation and now crossover star of 2017 Despacito (Remix with Bieber and Daddy Yankee is #1) and the version with only Daddy Yankee and no Bieber is #4 - 9.5 million combined listens - Songs #2 and #3 combined only have 9.1 million listens

First #1 in Spanish since Marcarena in the 1990’s. It sounds a lot like the 2014 World Cup anthem Bailando — that’s because they’re the same style/genre of music - like Two Chains and Future songs sounding alike.

Also - a million songs have come out between Marcarena and Despacito and only one has  blown up like this and it’s blowing up right now

#3 is Shape of You with Ed Sheeran - and guess what — if anyone has the chops and pedigree and timing to take this from Luis Fonsi it’s Sheeran with this tune — don’t think this song will quote get there

#2 I’m the One with Bieber, Quavo, DJ Khaled, Chance the Rapper & Lil Wayne - STAR POWER — Overly simple beat and structure, guest verses, it’s got some potential

Sleepers

#8 Attention By Chris Puth

#9 Stay by Zedd with Alessia Cara #9 —  this is a Chain Smokerz rip-off — but it’s effective

#10 It Ain’t Me - Kygo with Selena Gomez #10 - Might be a little too Club/ Euro not enough Pop appeal for older americans and really young kids like elementary school aged — cuz you need moms, people in their 20s, teens, and kids to make a true phenomi

#11 Malibu by Miley Cyrus — not my fave — but if I came around on Party in the USA - I can come around on anything — plus she’s dating a Hemsworth and we at the Filibuster Freestyle love allllll the Hemsdogs

Peaked too soon:

#12 That’s what I like - Bruno Mars

#13 Something Just like this - The Chainsmokers with Coldplay

#24 First Time - Kygo & Ellie Goulding

#19 Thunder - Imagine Dragons

#18 XO Tour Llif3 by Lil Uzi Vert — best R&B, Hiphop, Trap combo of 2017 thus far

Might be too far down but I love ‘em:

Rollin by Calvin Harris by Calvin Harris, Future & Khalid #46 — smooth as eff, great driving song great night time porch song, dance party song, etc

Crying in the Club - Camilla Cable  -#42— typically young female voice over a club track — good hook “Ain’t no Crying in the club” concept is one we can relate to

#37 Slow hands by Niall Horan — it’s the only rockish (with a twinge of folksiness) - not country but if you told it was pop country - i wouldn’t be shocked

Here’s one with a shot cuz of who sings it — “the Cure” by Lady Gaga is at #40 but rising — It’s good, it’s the right mix of safe and modern — and she writes the hits

#34 Galway Girl — Ed Sheeran — seems like it’s peaked to early as well — but I can see it being huge in the Northeast with all of the irish folks

#33 Slide - by Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean & Migos - This is my fave on the summer i think

#26 There for you - Martin Garrix and Troye Sivan

Striking Distance

#30 Mama by Jonas Blue, William Singe — it has the common thread — a chorus /message that kids, teens and young moms will all like a lot - This one’s got a chance

Honorable Mention - #29 the return of Post Malone of “White Iverson” fame — with Congratuations ft/ Quavo

#23 Pretty Girl - Cheat Codes by Maggie Lindermann — got girl power anthem / bachelorette party written all over it — and cheerleading routines, etc

#20 Bad Liar — Selena Gomez — they pretty much steal bass line from Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer - Has some subtle LCD Soundsytem style lyrics — this song is so mass produced - but it’s got a lot going for it

#17 Strip that Down - Liam Payne, Quavo — has a bit of that Cross over party appeal

#14 Unforgettable — another personal pick — not quite gonna get to the top
